A Journey Unheard……………………..

Music is very impacting and has the potential to effect our youth in a negative or a positive way.  Through the “Voice in The Music” program, it is our goal to encourage our youth to promote and create music that will influence their peers in a positive light by drawing on their own personal experiences.  We accomplish this through our M.E.M. (Mentorship, Education, and Music) system. 

1. MENTORSHIP - 

Students learn to vocalize their journey by addressing variety of topics such as:

• Dealing with stress
• Managing conflict
• Peer pressure
• Self image
• Self esteem
• Defining success

We will use a number of activities, workshops, and guest speakers to engage the students in group discussions surrounding these topics

 2. EDUCATION -

This component will help document their journey.  The lessons are designed to help the students document their emotions and opinions on subject matters that are discussed throughout the course of the mentorship unit, and also to express their feelings towards higher education. Such as:

• Their fears
• Their challenges
• Their concerns

Their journal will contain all of their thoughts, ideas, experiences and feelings expressed in the form of writing. Ultimately it is a creative tool they use to tell the story of their life and a way to capture their experiences in writing.

 3. MUSIC

The music component allows them to have their journey expressed in a powerful song written and recorded by them! We will:

• Provide music equipment for recording process
• Teach students how to write in song format
• Press up cd’s and cd covers

Because music is such a powerful force in the world we want to help our youth understand the impact it can have, both positive and negative, on their lives and the lives of their peers.

→ Along with the implementation of this program, we will also be creating an album which will include the songs completed by the youth from different cities.  Upon completion, the “Voice Of The Music”album will be sold and all proceeds will go towards a scholarship fund for students to further their education.
